Weber GmbH & Co. KG, a full-service supplier of plastic components, produces plastics solutions for Stokke® that impress with their range of functions, user-friendliness and level of safety. The long-established Norwegian manufacturer of high-quality children's furniture therefore relies on the plastics expertise of the system supplier based in Dillenburg for the production of its chair Steps^TM.

Weber produces thermoplastic components for the product line Steps^TM, the most recent market launch of the children's furniture manufacturer Stokke, which make the chair extremely robust and adaptable. All plastic components of the chair as well as the accessories Steps^TM Baby Set that turns the chair into a baby high chair and Steps^TM Baby Set Tray, the attachable table tray, are manufactured by the family company from Dillenburg. In order to cooperate successfully, Weber, as the system supplier, takes responsibility for producing individual parts of the plastic components, coordinating suppliers, pre- and sub-assembly as well as the picking and packing of the chair in a way that is suitable for the end customer.

As far as the design was concerned, it was important for both companies to develop a product that meets the user-friendliness requirements of children and eliminates potential risks of injury. The shape of the chair has been designed to be perfectly adapted to the child's body and to favour the correct posture. The rounded corners and countersunk screws also ensure a high level of safety.

"The chair is the core of our seating system and serves as a base for the bouncer and additional accessories. All accessories can be attached and dismantled with snap functions, no tools are needed. The Stokke® Steps^TM chair can be used together with the Stokke® Steps^TM Bouncer bringing your newborn to the table, and with the Stokke® Steps^TM Baby Set to create the highchair. Your child can comfortably sit at the dining table and enjoy mealtimes and gathering with the rest of family" explains Hilde Angelfoss, Design and Innovation Director at Stokke

"When it came to developing components, we attached particular importance to using recyclable and therefore sustainable plastics that are compliant with the food legislation. The rigidity and colour fastness of the components is ensured by performing multi-phase quality inspections during production," explains Dirk Kadenbach, Project Manager for Stokke Steps at Weber. All the components used are tested and approved according to the standards of the relevant selling country in Europe, Asia and the USA. As far as Germany is concerned, the high chair complies with the European standards (EN) for safety EN 14988  and EN 12790  for the chair and bouncer. "We also ensure a high degree of stability and a low weight by using the material combination of wood and plastic."
